Three Worlds, Three Moons (3W3M) is a brand new universe created by Ex-Marvel/DC creators and executives Jonathon Hickman, Mike Del Mundo, Mike Huddleston and Nick Spencer. Over 100 years of combined experience in storytelling- from The Amazing Spiderman, to X-Men to The Fantastic Four and beyond - it's the largest comic book publication on Substack by subscriber count.
I joined as Technical Co-Founder and CTO in 2022. I'd go on to build several innovations at 3W3M including a blockchain-based story engine capable of saving complex story arcs and player progression. A WYSIWYG interactive interactive comic editor (plus engine) that provided a no-code experience for in-house creators. A modern CMS-backed mobile app on iOS and Android.
But, the most groundbreaking achievement was the design and implementation of a blockchain based story progression engine. Our content creation tools were able to track complex, episodic storylines, add interactive elements and publish them straight to the 3W3M app. Every decision made by the player can be recalled in future episodes to drive bespoke experiences at the whims of the storyteller. Truly one of the most interesting things I've built on chain.
Playback was driven by a renderer-agnostic, web-socket command protocol that could play interactive stories in any off the shelf game engine, web browser or even something as lo-fi as a discord bot.
